Rohtang Pass

The Rohtang Pass is situated at an altitude of 4111 m (13,400 ft) on Manali-Leh Highway (NH-21), at a distance of 52 km from Manali Bus Stand, 43 km from Solang Valley and 16.5 km from Marhi. It is one of Manali’s most popular tourist spots to visit, and also one of Manali’s top places to visit as part of Himachal packages. This is the best place to witness snow in summer season and the popular place in Himachal State for adventure sports. Rohtang Pass is an elevated mountain pass on the Himalayan eastern Pir Pangal Range. It is a gateway to the valley of Lahaul, Spiti, Pangi and Leh just as pass Zojila is a gateway to Ladakh.

Rohtang Pass is an extremely beautiful and popular Manali spot with over 25 lakh visitors per year. The Pass provides a stunning panoramic view over the mountains. This pass was once used as an significant commercial road. It is an old trade route between the people on both sides of Pir Panjal. The Pass is open every year from May till November. The mountains at the Rohtang Pass are completely covered in snow during winter, so it is difficult to get there. Therefore, the pass stays closed in winter and normally opens again in May. The Indian army gives permission to drive on this highway after clearing the snow and checking the road for its fitness and protection for people’s and the vehicle movement.
