Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple

Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple of Uttarakhand is an ancient temple situated within the Pauri district of Uttarakhand. Tarkeshwar Mahadev temple is dedicated to God Shiva. A temple dedicated to Goddess Shakti lies adjacent to the most temple. consistent with another myth, it’s said that Goddess Parvati had transformed herself into 7 deodar trees, so as to supply shade to Lord Shiva and therefore the deodar trees of the region are originated from these 7 trees.

According to the Indian mythology, Demon Tarkasur worshiped God Shiva at this place. Lord Shiva blessed him of immortality except from Shiva son Kartikeya. Demon Tarkasur started threatening gods and killing saints and Sages. then they prayed to God Shiva and his son Kartikeya killed Tarkasur but at the time of death Tarkasur makes prayer to Lord Shiva and asked for forgiveness. Then Mahadev given his name to this temple where Tarkasur worshiped him. That’s why this temple is known as Tarkeshwar Mahadev temple of dev bhumi Uttarakhand.

Bells are offered to Lord Shiva on special occasions within the Hindu families in Tarkeshwar mahadev Temple of Lansdowne.
