Overview

Chamba is a town of the Himalayas situated in Himachal Pradesh district of Chamba. Renowned for the ancient temples, caves and buildings that speak highly of Indian history, Chamba is renowned for fascinating views of the ranges of Pir Panjal, Zanskar and Dhauladhar in the backdrop of this picture-postcard city. Chamba is famous for its traditional handicrafts and art along with the miniature Pahari paintings-a style of Indian painting that originated in the 17th to 19th century from the Himalayan hill kingdoms of North India. This is also the base camp in the great Himalayan mountains, for many treks.

However, apart from its natural beauty, Chamba also boasts a magnificent cultural heritage. Its huge stone-carved temples, like the Chamunda Devi Temple or the Laxmi Narayan Temple, give tourists an architectural treat. Several small villages line the outskirts of Chamba, each having its own special attractions. While visiting Chamba, one does not miss out on a visit to the Saho Village. Chamba is one of the year-round destinations in Himachal Pradesh because of its relatively mild climate. The temperature stays fairly high in the summer months between March and June, and can even rise to as much as 35 degrees Celsius. Heavy snowfall is experienced at Chamba in December and January.
