Overview

The town of Solan, situated between Chandigarh and Shimla, is named after the Hindu Goddess Shoolini Devi. Throughout the years Solan has earned a number of nicknames due to its production of raw materials, such as the City of Red Gold for its tomato production. This little town lined with forests of pine and deodar boasts a breathtaking natural beauty. Solan’s natural life can best be witnessed by going on a trip to Mohan National Heritage Park. Boasting vast, landscaped gardens with a variety of god and goddess sculptures, this Park was particularly built to educate the younger generation about the rich Vedic culture.

Trekking and camping are some of Solan’s most popular activities, with destinations like Barog or Chaili offering the perfect spot to do likewise. The city is also renowned for two of the state’s most successful fairs, the three-day Shoolini Fair, and the Arki Fort Sair Festival, famed for its bullfighting. In Himachal Pradesh Solan is one of the most famous places to visit. During the summer months the temperature remains high, with regular rainfall. The winter here is fairly cool and nice, with temperatures falling rarely below 5 degrees Celsius.
