The beautiful Dal Lake stands at 1,775 m above sea level and is one of McLeodganj’s famous sightseeing attractions. The greenish lake is home to diverse fish species. This oval shaped lake is surrounded by deodar trees and is considered a holy spot because on its bank there is a small Shiva Temple. Legend has it that sage Durvasa prayed to Lord Shiva here. A large number of Lord Shiva devotees flock to the Dal Lake each year during the month of September to attend the famous festival celebrated at the temple of Lord Shiva.
